On Jesus and his killers – Ben Samuels in Haaretz:
‘U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz as the next U.S. attorney general, far and away the most controversial of his cabinet nominees to date.
The Florida congressman — who himself is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for sexual misconduct — has often found himself on the wrong side of controversies with the American-Jewish community, often citing antisemitic tropes and voting against legislation aimed at combating anti-Jewish hatred.’

‘"Antisemitism is wrong, but this legislation is written without regard for the Constitution, common sense, or even the common understanding of the meaning of words," Gaetz said. "The Gospel itself would meet the definition of antisemitism under the terms of this bill! The bill says the definition of antisemitism includes 'contemporary examples of antisemitism' identified by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). One of those examples includes: '…claims of Jews killing Jesus…' The Bible is clear. There is no myth or controversy on this. Therefore, I will not support this bill."’

‘He further earned scrutiny from the Jewish community after his staffer Darren Beatie praised an anti-COVID restriction Berlin demonstration where neo-Nazis visibly participated as "beautiful." Beattie additionally accused Soros of orchestrating Black Lives Matter demonstrations as a means of undermining America.’
(…)
‘The American Jewish Committee slammed Gaetz's appointment. "At a time of historic levels of antisemitism, we need someone at the helm of the Department of Justice who will tackle antisemitism — not peddle in it," the organization said in a statement. "Matt Gaetz's history of problematic remarks — including perpetuating antisemitic conspiracy theories — should be disqualifying for anyone seeking to be America's top law enforcement officer. We urge President-elect Trump to reconsider this nomination, otherwise the Senate has a responsibility to reject it."’

I don’t think that the Senate will stand between any of Trump’s nominations or proposals.
Don’t count on Congress.
I’m not sure what one should count on.
Old taboos are shattered, not only in the US.
And it needs to be said that the discussion about the antisemitism definitions are interesting but not very uplifting.
