This afternoon I had an interview with the German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk.
Over lunch he said: “There is competition between wines, but there is no real competition between philosophers. ‘Jeder lügt für sich allein.’” Roughly translated: “Everybody is lying alone.” But a better translation should be possible.
